Limited or no Connectivity!

i have 2 computers connecting by using cross over cable
i use windows Xp in both computers, Workgroup.

when use automatic Ip address i got this message
"Limited or no Connectivity" in both computer [see the picture]

when i put static ip address its work well !
can anyone explain me why i got this message when i use automatic ip, and how can i solve it!!!

You are getting this error because there is no DHCP server. A DHCP server manages leasing out IP addresses. Routers and servers configured for DHCP lease out IP addresses and it seems you don't have the two. Since you don't have a DHCP server you have to manually assign the computers IP address or you get an IP address of 169.254.x.x which is not a valid IP. Let me know if you need anything else.
