Hi guys, I just tried making a new user on my vista, and when I log in to it, all it shows is a light bluish window with only a mouse pointer. Anyone know how to fix this?

Does the original user account still work?

If so delete the new profile and start anew.

Did you create a new User Account because the 1st one was infected with malware. Sometimes creating a New User Account is a valid means of "sidestepping" a problem, however some malware and system file corruption is not "account specific" and will continue to cause problems, even under new accounts.

Yes, the original account still works. I tried making a new account, same problem.

In the account that is not working hit Ctrl+Alt+Del if task manager opens or you have the choice of task manager select it press the new task button and type explorer.exe hit enter.
Does that bring up the desktop?

Nah, that didn't work. It said "This file does not have a program associated with it for performing this action. Create an association in tset associations control panel". Another thing I found while looking around task manager is that there are only 5 processes running.

Check Event Viewer for chronic and/or significant errors.

Can you reboot into safe mode? Try restoring to a point a few days ago when this want an issue if possible

Your original account still works correct?

If you are setting up a password while creating the account don't leave it blank and set it up after logging on to the account for the first time.
