I'm an a-typical windows user and about a month ago I installed redhat 9 on my spare computer. I got through the installation and could perform all the ready-made actions in the frontend (which says alot about how hard these people are working to include windows users in all the fun) but when it came to anything else I was at a complete loss.

Could anyone recommend some literature to get some basic knowledge about this os? Or should I maybe just enrole in some c++ classes and shut up?

I don't know if c++ classes will help unless you program. There are a lot of books on learning linux, and at one of my local colleges I've even seen intro to linux classes. I'm sure someone here can recomend a good book for learning linux.

I would suggest the "Nutshell series" from O'Reilly they pretty much defined the Unix/Linux book series and Linux in a Nutshell seems to be pretty good :)
