The LCD on my laptop doesn't come on when I start the computer. The computer works because I can attach it to a mointor by cable and use the laptop.
Do I have a hardware or software problem and how do I test to see what the real problem is? Warranty ended 9 months ago.

Have you tried to switch it back to the LCD using Fn + whatever key?
The other key has a picture of two monitors on it.

Hi Thomas,

In addition to what Terrister has said, check for another Fn + Function key combination. This one will turn the LCD backlight on and off, and the function key it is on will be near or next to the function key that the monitor toggle is on.

In addition, shine a flashlight at the screen at about a 45 degree angle to it and see if you can very faintly see a picture.
