Hi, I got my daughter an HP G42 notebook computer about a year ago. Last month, she started to hear something rattling inside. So, me and my son opened the laptop ourselves and found that the backup battery had fell out. I don't know how it happened but I suspect that she may have dropped the laptop. So we put it back where it belonged and after reassembling, the computer would not turn on. No lights, no display, nothing. What do you guys think are all the possible reasons for this?

I appreciate any help anyone can give on this matter.

one possiblity may be that the the cable from the panel with the power button on it is not connected to the motherboard

I double checked and I'm sure that the the cable from the panel with the power button on it is connected to the motherboard.

ok, if the battery is removed and the laptop is plugged into the ac adapter will it power up?

I would suggest that you check all the connections again.

Make sure that the DC power jack is connected to the motherboard.
