Hey,

I am trying to fix my girlfriend's laptop. It is a HP Pavilion DV9310ca:

• AMD Turion 64 X2 mobile technology TL-52 / 1.6 GHz
• 17"
• TFT
• 1 GB RAM
• 120 GB HD
• 7.7 lbs
• Microsoft Windows Vista Home Premium

That's all I honestly really know about it. She showed it to me a month ago, and it worked fine. It had some trouble starting up, but still started up nonetheless. She hasn't used it since that one night she turned it on, and now when she tries booting it up, nothing happens. The lights will come on, like for the volume, power lights, and DVD Video controls, but that's it. They'll blink and then go off in under a second. The quick play button, to the right of the power button, will make the computer make a slight beeping noise when touched, but then it will all just go off again.

The hard drive doesn't boot, the fans don't turn on, and pretty much nothing else comes on besides the little power lights.

I have a copy of Windows Vista that I can install on it, but the first step is to get it to post, which I can't do. :(

When it's plugged in, the small power light will show that it's charging, and stay lit.

Things I've tried so far:

• Cleaning it out
• Unplugging and plugging back in the motherboard battery
• Taking out the ram for a little bit and putting it back in
• Taking out the battery and trying to run it off just the AC
• Taking out the battery for a few minutes and putting it back in

I really don't know a whole lot about laptops, I've dealt with problems with my own desktop computer multiple times, and have been able to fix it, but I know nothing about laptops.

Any help would be appreciated, as right now we know nothing about what the problem could be. If we could at least pinpoint what the problem is, we might be able to fix it, like if there's a part that needs replacing.

Thanks for any help that is given! If there are any other details you might need let me know and I'll try to find it out for you!

I'm not entirely sure if it happened after a hibernate/standby. She said it had problems like these off and on over the past few months, and now it's just to the point where it won't start at all.

I heard from a friend that we could send the laptop back to HP under a "Service Advisory" warranty, but I don't know where to go or what to do to get in contact with them about this... The 1 year warranty on the laptop is out of date, but this "Service Advisory" is said to be for 2 years, which the laptop is still under. Any info on this?

Thanks for the reply TriggerFinger! :)

If the laptop falls under the ones covered by the document on the link, may be you can call HP Customer Support and inform them about it.

There were a thread or two here sometime before that made use of this Service Advisory.

What is the part number (P/N) written on the label at the bottom of the machine?

Great, thanks!

I phoned them up and they put me through some of the things I had already tried. They eventually said they'll be sending me a box over the next couple of days and will repair it for us.

Gonna be sending it away and hopefully will get it back in working order.

Thank you for all your help TriggerFinger! :)

Should I change the topic title to "Solved" now?
