Hi,

I've been having the same problem with Sony Vaio for a few months now. However, i can only recall it ever happenning when watching video. The screen will go a solid colour, the colour varies each time--I've seen them all. I will still get audio but the screen will remain that colour and will be forced to go into hibernation-mode. When I turn it on again, the display is fine, and the video continues like nothing ever happened.

I used to think it was a overheating problem but now i'm concerned about drivers. I haven't considered a broken flat cable though.

The screen used to do this often, sometimes 3 or 4 times during a 30 minute television show. It's gone a few weeks without happeneing at all, even through periods of constant use for gaming, but now it has started up again.

more RAM? new video card? any links for testing drivers? or is this going to be a costly hardware repair?

try a external monitor on it and see if it is the same

the video could be heating under load

your more likely to have a video chip instead of a card

if that's gone it means a new m/board

if it is a card either way it's expensive
