Laptop restarts a few times before "turning on"

Okay, I'm having the strangest thing happen with my laptop and I'm not sure why...

When I turn it on, the Compaq screen hangs for about 30 seconds, then the laptop turns off and back on. This process repeats about 4 times until it actually boots from anything. Once started, it works just fine.

Any ideas to what is causing this?

I have a Compaq Presario F756NR with no HDD or optical drive. (It is booting off of a USB, but that is not the reason why it restarts when I turn it on.)

Hi try testing the ram
Ahh... yes. Thanks for your response. I forgot to mention that I used the memtest (or whatever it's called) utility in the BIOS and my laptop informed me that it was working fine.

Thanks, but is there a way I can boot it off of a USB instead? I don't have a CD drive.
