everything in my device manager is fine except, down near the bottom, click system devices, system speakers, no driver installed. there are no warnings or markers showing this.
i now think a registry cure program deleted .dll files , does this matter?
thanks

hi bill,
thanks for your help.
i did as requested.
in my bios there is no mention of the sound card also there does not seem to be a place for it.
my laptop after reboot found new hardware and installed vinal ac driver.
still no sound.

i dont think its the driver or the speakers, do .dll or registry files effect the sound?
thanks

Hi Jerry,
According to your Everest report you have an SIS 7012 audio card.
Try this link:
http://www.sis.com/
Click on download
Accept the agreement and I agree. Select the OS (XP) Audio driver and then select SIS 7012. Be sure you have all the Microsoft updates (SP2 and critical updates) installed first.
Hope this helps.
Thanks,
Bill

Hi Jerry,
Go to the control panel, select switch to classic view(if not already). Then go to sound and audio devices. Check that the sound is not muted and the speaker volume is up. Then go to the speaker section and click on the advance tab and check for the proper speaker setup (Laptop stereo). Also open the device volume advance tab and besure nothing is muted.
Thanks,
Bill

Thats all checked and fine. it wont even play system sounds, the correct driver is installed.
no alerts in device manager.

i can only think it has something to do with a registery cure program i ran which deleted .dll files. i've restored the system using the same regestary cure program but still no sound.

i had a problem with my dvd drive, so i bought an external drive which came with nero6 softwawe, i loaded this then my internal dvd sorted itself, so i uninstalled nero and the external dvd.

would the above be the problem.

thanks

back in the device manager click view, then show hidden devices.
did you get a motherboard disk?
if you have one, run the disk for the chipset drivers.

do you have powered external speakers you could try on this unit?
