Laptop internal drives no longer recognised.

A colleague brought me his laptop to take a look at because he can't boot into windows. It kept defaulting to PXE boot every time. I took a look in the BIOS, and he has no DVD drive and no hard drive listed. I've opened it up and checked that they're both physically present, fully plugged in and such. The DVD drive ejects and appears to spin up discs as it should.

Both drives were working just fine until recently. Any suggestions?

The laptop is a Toshiba Satellite running Vista, but I can't tell exactly what model it is as the sticker's been rubbed off.

If HDD and cd are not listed in the bios chances are it is a mb problem
You may want to test the HDD externally on another machine
and or try an external usb cd to make sure

That's what I'm afraid of. Oh well, not my laptop, not ultimately my problem >:D
