Hi,

I am having major issues playing games on my laptop coz since the last 2 days, every time i play COD4 MW my laptop starts freezing up to the point that once it's frozen, it does not recover unless I hard reset it using the power button.

I did do a major clean up of the laptop by opening it up a month ago and also replaced the thermal grease for the GPU and the CPU and the temps for normal use are down however the metal chassis of the laptop does feel warm to the touch when gaming. It always used to when the laptop was brand new when I got it about 2.5 years ago.

I also have a cooler master notepal i100 laptop cooler under the laptop however that isn't helping either.

I have no clue of what else to do but build myself a desktop I guess as this Core i7 laptop is useless for me as I use this for normal work and all and occasional gaming on the go and that I guess the latter has ended for me. Someone help

Thank you for your time.

Sam.

Can you grab the temps after running a game for five minutes?

Yes why not. Here are my system temps after gaming for about 5-10 mins. However I continued gaming and the laptop didn't freeze at all for a continuous half an hour session. I know that isn't long for gaming but I did something which could have been the culprit of all of this.

Apparently my Disk was always 100% and I was going crazy by trying to bring it down. Tried almost everything out there which helped for the first 5-10 mins of PC use but then it would be back at 100% and the system would start freezing and unfreezing randomly all the while the temps were roundabout 50C. So I thought to myself that maybe this is the problem and therefore removed some programs which weren't that important to me and I could live without them hence the problem seems to be ok now. The system is responsive, however the temps do seem to be on the high side and I suspect the Disk 100% issue has been resolved but these temps could come back and haunt me.

Ok so I didn't exactly know how to get my temp ratings by the minute, and while tidying up my files in different folders, I came across a software which was running in the background called CorsairLink and I had no clue that it was making excel file data every 5 seconds for my laptop temp which is pretty good. So here is what I found after exactly 10 mins of gaming. It seems like its pretty high to me, please shed some light on this :)

Temps are high, but it shouldn't cause freezing yet.

How do other games perform? Any troubles with web browsing?
Hi. My apologies for the delayed response. I've been through hell and back with this laptop. It wanted to die on me and I said to my self, like hell you will coz I bought it for such a hefty price and I AM NOT going to let it die on me :) haha quite dramatic but that is what I kept thinking and voila, I have saved the day.

You're perfectly right in terms of the temps, temps are high but then the laptop started freezing during normal windows use, like browsing and all and that was making me very angry.

Because all that was happening, I suspected some viruses or malware which the NOD32 isn't detecting.

So I did the following.

1. Chucked the NOD32 I had and got myself a great black friday deal for the Bitdefender 2017 Antivirus Plus.
2. The moment I installed Bitdefender, the system completely lost it, was extremely slow and jittery.
3. Logged in using safe mode, and scanned the entire system.
4. System scanning took 23 hours to be precise. (Bitdefender)
5. Scanned the entire system again with MalwareBytes (Premium)
6. Found a bunch of Malware in my Outlook Files and Dell Sys Detect folder.
7. Restarted the system praying for it to be back up again

Voila, Its all good. Thanks to Bitdefender, saved the day :)

Temps are high during gaming and all but it doesn't freeze the system no more.

One thing to note is that this Bitdefender 2017 Antivirus plus does not scan Outlook 2013 on the fly so I have to unfortunately not use it anymore :( But its all good :)

Thank you for your replies and all. I guess Ill consider the thread to be solved and shoot back if this system causes more issues.

I'm glad to hear it's back in action. I'm beginning to wonder if it was actually NOD32 causing the slowdowns in the system, not the files that Bitdefender found.

I would see about cleaning the PC from any dust using an air compressor. It won't hurt to do that.

That doesn't mean I wouldn't use Outlook 2013. Still use it as your default mail client, just be careful of what you click on for emails that you do not know.

Ok so I was testing the system out for a couple of days and lo and behold the system freeze issues comes again. This time, not just when gaming, windows also. There have been times when I've not had any issues at all but its happened twice in the last 24 hours that the system froze just by sitting there meaning on desktop not even doing anything and no gaming as well. Weird issues with this laptop. I am beginning to get sick of windows all together. It is full of bugs. Might jump ship to mac.

Yes I did use an air compressor to clean the system, also cleaned every nook and cranny of the laptop when I opened it up, the temps are down, way down from the earlier 110 degrees but the problem remains and I have removed the solved status of the thread. :banghead:

Follow this guide here. It will pull a lot of information, including any running tasks. It will allow me to see if something is hogging the resources of the PC.

If you don't think that Mac has it's own bundle of troubles, you are in for a surprise. :ermm:

Oh wow I didn't know mac has issues too. I just want a system which I switch on and it just works rather than me sitting hours on end on this machine trying to fix it daily

Thank you for your help though.

Here's the link from the speecy program.

I did launch the system in safe mode and it doesn't slow down in that so God knows what is going on in this computer of mine.

I was actually thinking of factory restoring my laptop. This dell 7537 came with windows 8 and then I upgraded for free to windows 10 when the option came in the taskbar. However I am not entirely sure if factory restoring is going to take it back to windows 8 or not. I do not mind windows 10 but maybe a full system restore happens which brings me to a clean version of windows 10 or windows 8 should be cool. What do you say? That way I don't have to go through the small things in windows 10 as there are too many things i've installed since I got this laptop and who knows what software is causing this issue.

Ok so I backed up all my data into my spare external HDD and then reset the windows 10 PC choosing the option to factory restore the PC with all C Drive files deleted. Uptil now the PC is running perfectly fine with no errors, no heatup issues etc. Fingers crossed.:whistling:
