I have an old HP laptop which's internet functionality suddenly ceased.
Factory resetting it fixed the issue initially, however it stopped working again after a few hours.
A second factory reset worked, but it stopped again after a few hours.

After trying another factory reset, the "Connect to Wifi/Lan" set-up tip completely dissapeared.

Neither WiFi nor Ethernet connections work now.

The HP Wireless Assistant is also missing the entire WiFi section, and bluetooth functionality has been "Disabled by Device Manager", even though it is nowhere to be found in device manager.

(Sorry, cannot take screenshots due to obvious reasons)

The laptop came pre-packaged with Norton Antivirus which I've declined the installation of every time.

The laptop is a HP620 64Bit.
If there is anything that might help it would be greatly appreciated.

Same problem when temporarily booting and running a different Operating System from a Live CD, DVD, or USB flash drive?

A Live CD/DVD or USB flash drive contains a complete bootable computer operating system (OS). When you boot a computer from it, the OS loads into, and then runs from memory instead of a hard drive. This allows you to run an OS without installing it or making any changes to a computer's current configuration.​

To create one, download an ISO file containing the OS you want to use, (such as Zorin, Ubuntu, or Slax, then use something like ISO Recorder to burn it to a CD/DVD or Rufus to burn to ita USB flash drive/key.​

Now boot your computer from this disc/key and your computer will be running that OS instead of the one on your HDD/SSD​

When you're done testing to see if the internet (wired and wireless) are working, remove the Linux Live CD/DVD/USB flash drive and simply reboot your PC from the hard drive/SSD like you do now.

If the problem persists even when running a different OS, then the issue is -- more than likely -- hardware related.

Your RealTek Family controller is your Ethernet jack. You can use an Ethernet cable and plug it directly to your Router for internet, till you fix the Wifi. In Device Manager, go to the toolbar at the top to Action/Show Hidden Devices. Does it show here?
Older HP Laptops have an issue where the laptops heat disables the WiFi controller and card. Replacing the card won't fix it. Most people result to using a USB WiFi adapter.

Thank you so much!
Reinstalling from a flashdrive worked, it fixed the ethernet connection problems,
the WiFi still doesn't work, but that can probably be solved by finding the right drivers.
