Yes it's a replaceable part and if you have set the setting as bright as they will go and still dim that is most likely the problem
Laptop Back Light Out
I am working on a Gateway laptop and the screen is very dim.
If I connect it to a dock or an overhead projector, the video is fine.
I feel confident that the problem is the backlight for the screen. Is there a way to check this, and is it a replacable part or will the entire screen have to be swapped out?
