Lacie 80g external hard drive motor died (I think)

Hi, Everybody. New here.

I am a novice who bought a Lacie external drive about 8 months ago. I entirely backed up everything from my computer on it over a period of a few months months - photos, business files, personal letters, etc., in anticipation of an upgrade to Windows XP from win 98 SE. I wiped everything off of my regular computer. A month or so ago, my external drive light will come on but I get no action - no sound - no play - nothing.

Is the motor dead? What can I do? All I get is the eerie orange power light. I would hate to loose all of my stuff.

Thanks.

The first reccomendation would be to remove it from the enclosure and install it as a slave in a desktop if possible
Hi

If your external drive is through USB then you would need an internal drive with an OS and USB drivers installed to access your external drive. Slave the drive to another internal working HDD that has an OS installed, and then start the computer to see if you can access the drive and gain access to its folders that way, as recommended. Make sure you get the jumper settings right.

Here's a good guide to troubleshooting: http://www.techsupportforum.com/har...d-drive-trouble-shooting.html?highlight=slave
