KOTOR 2 not running properly

I am running KOTOR 2 on my Toshiba Satellite X205, with Windows Vista Home Premium 32 bit, with 2 GB of RAM, NVIDIA 8600, Realtek High-Def sound card, and all the rest are over the recommended parameters. However, KOTOR 2, refuses to start 98% of the time. At times, it starts instantly. Other times, I have to double-click it, wait for it to come up with Star Wars Knights of the Old Republic 2 has stopped working. Then redo it. Times I have had to do this over one hundred times to get it to work. What the heck is wrong with it?
