keyboard issues

781 Views 5 Replies 3 Participants Last post by  Old Rich
When typing with word or an email or infact, anywhere, my cursor is jumping around. It will suddenly jumps into the middle of the previous word/s or sentence above or wipe out the previous sentence altogether. I have had the keyboard replaced but its still happening. It has happened 9 times so far whilst typing this ! When typing in fields in a form on line it jumps from one field to another.
Any thoughts anyone - Dell dont seem to know. I can plug in a usb keyboard and it works fine but the integral board has the problem

and welcome to the Forum

That is usually caused when you brush a thumb or palm across the mousepad on the laptop, thus moving the cursor. You should be able to adjust the pad sensitivity in Control Panel

You should also be able to hide cursor while typing. In Control Panel too.
no what I mean is the keyboard has a life of its own I'm not touching the mousepad at all as I touch type my thumbs dont go any where near the pad. What I mean by the cursor is - where I am typing just suddenly jumps backward and upward and sometimes it completely deletes the sentence I have just typed - its weird ! I can be typing this sentence and suddenly I am typing in the 5th word back, for example.
It can still be your touch pad. It is really hard to notice when you touch it.

Pretty easy way to test it is to put a post-it sticker on the touch pad. If the cursor stops jumping, there is your problem. If not, you may have something nasty on your computer and you should scan it for viruses/malwares.
