I recently installed windows 8 on my laptop and the back-lit keyboard no longer works. This is not a major issue, but it is an inconvenience. There used to be an option in the VAIO control panel, but it is no longer there. Prior to the system restore everything worked fine. I can not find any drivers pertaining to the keyboard that may fix this issue either. Here is a link to the Sony support page with drivers, specs, and other information. VAIO VPCF13YFX/B
Sony wants to charge me $150 to look at it. Can anyone help me?

First, conflicting information: "I recently installed windows 8" and "Prior to the system restore" typically mean two completely different things. Installation implies a CD/DVD performing a fresh install. Recovery implies an OEM PC using the recovery partition or DVD which restores the PC back to how it shipped.

In any case, the feature is a part of the VAIO control panel/keyboard software. There are numerous VAIO software packages listed in the link above. Most of which likely won't work in Win8. Trial and error to see if you can find the correct software (and hope it will run in Win8).

My apologies about the mix up. I copied and pasted the post from about a year ago, then made some changes. I didn't really proofread it before posting. A year ago I did restore it to factory before giving it to a friend for school (When I first encountered the problem). I recently got it back from him and performed a clean installation of Windows 8 for him. It is an inconvenience to not have the back-light. I am seeking another persons opinion because I have gave up on trying to figure it out.
