Issue with outlook express and importing messages

993 Views 4 Replies 4 Participants Last post by  LinixLia
I posted this on the Outlook forum and was told to repost it here.

I have Outlook Express 6, and a while back I exported some old messages as a .dbx into my archives. Now, for some very important work business, I need to access those files.

I've tried going to File>Import>Messages, but Import from Outlook Express 6 doesn't appear. I've tried using the import tool for older versions but it does nothing.

I'm desperate; how can I review these messages???

Thanks.

I think this program will suit your needs

Good Luck!

Here's a freeware .dbx reader I found. And a comment in one of the reviews.

OE Viewer

Nice, simple program to use. This program decoded e-mails saved from my old computer, including attachments. I did have to save the messages into an intermediate file before dragging them into my current version of OE.
It's a standalone program and doesn't require installation.

PS.

I just played with it. After your open it, go to the top where it says File, and choose Open. Browse to the folder where the .dbx files are. Select the .dbx file you want to see, ie Inbox, highlight it, select Open.
All the emails in the Inbox are now listed. Highlight the email you want, and then go to the top to Message Database, and select Message View.
And there it is!

If you need/want to put it back in OE, close the Message View window, go back to Message Database and choose Save Selected.

Or if you just want to save the complete folder first and then look at all of them, just highlight all the messages in the .dbx folder and save them to a folder of your choice.

This is a nifty little freebie! I think I'll keep it. Hope it helps you.

That's a great little program.
If you don't like having to load the DBX's into it, Right click a DBX>Open With>Choose Program. Browse to the OEView.exe and select it. Check the "Always use this program to open this type of file" and OK.
Whenever you click a DBX, it will open in the Viewer. Also works with OE BAK files and will even read them on a CD.

Here's a freebie that's not as versatile but it has an interface similar to OE's. http://www.powerdatarecovery.com/download.htm
Scroll down to Power Email Recovery for OE.

Thank you!

It worked wonderfully!!
