Hi guys,
My scenario for you today is:
I picked up a broken computer from my grandfather's house, attempted to fix it, took out the hard drive, chucked a new one in (not sure if that's even relevant), and when ever I attempt to boot the computer, directly after post, I encounter:
"Reboot and Select proper Boot device
or Insert Boot Media in selected Boot device and press a key".
Now. Here's the thing, my selected boot device was the CD drive, which is an OS boot CD. I have attempted messing around with the boot order, and no breakthrough has been made. I'm not entirely sure what component to suspect is the issue......so I hope this is being posted in the right forum.
Thoughts?

Sorry, probably should have included this in the initial description. The Hard Drive is IDE.

does the bootable CD even start spinning or does it blink once and jump to HDD straight away?

Uhhh I'm not really sure.. I musta changed something bad in the bios cause now it doesn't have a display when I turn it on, I'm pretty close to calling this computer deceased tbh. lol I attempted a CMOS reset, but I don't think it was the right jumper... lol

Are the drives listed in the BIOS? Hard drive and CD drive?

Do you have the drives connected to the same IDE channel?

try a new ide cable as they age they become brittle and a wire can break in them but you cannot see it
