I posted this in Networking and was referred here as an option. But wondering if this is the right forum for my problem. If it is I will go through the 'first steps' for malware/virus removal. But I have previously been through that protocol, and it was after removal and cleaning that this problem first appeared. I have run anti-virus, spyware programs, malwarebytes, etc. without any hits since.

If this is NOT the right forum, please suggest where I post this. Thanks.

Here is my original post:
******************

I have had this problem for over 4 mos and no one has been able to help me.

Windows XP SP 2

I got rid of some nasty malware with the help of www.geekstogo.com. Afterwards my internet connection would randomly go dead, and until recently every time I ran Network Diagnostics it would ALWAYS reestablish the network connection. If I just waited long enough the internet connection would reestablish itself, but it would take a while. The log would look like this:

ALL GREEN, except for this section --

HTTP, HTTPS, FTP Diagnostic
HTTP, HTTPS, FTP connectivity

warn HTTP: Error 12007 connecting to www.microsoft.com: The server name or address could not be resolved

warn HTTPS: Error 12007 connecting to www.microsoft.com: The server name or address could not be resolved

warn FTP (Passive): Error 12007 connecting to ftp.microsoft.com: The server name or address could not be resolved

warn HTTP: Error 12007 connecting to www.hotmail.com: The server name or address could not be resolved

warn HTTPS: Error 12007 connecting to www.passport.net: The server name or address could not be resolved

warn FTP (Active): Error 12007 connecting to ftp.microsoft.com: The server name or address could not be resolved

error Could not make an HTTP connection.
error Could not make an HTTPS connection.
error Could not make an FTP connection.

Having found no help other than the suggestion that I roll my system back to a restore point, which I tried with no relief, I downloaded winsockxpfix and tried it --which created a new problem.

When running the XP Network Diagnostics I got this log entry:

WinSock Diagnostic

WinSock status

info Error attmpting to validate the Winsock base providers: 2
error Not all base service provider entries could be found in the winsock catalog. A reset is needed.
info Redirecting user to support call

I found a thread at this site with what appears to be the same problem, and followed the instructions given to the poster. All the ping attempts were successful.

Any assistance would be greatly appreciated.

To be clear, the malware/virus removal protocol I went through was at geekstogo, not here.

Hello -

I'm not sure this is a malware removal issue, and you might be better suited back in networking.

For malware removal assistance, we require analysis logs as indicated in our pre-posting sticky topic. That said, I wonder why you've not followed up with your previous helper elsewhere if there's still an issue. They will have familiarity with the entire background of the issue.

If you want one of the malware removal staff to review this from a malware removal perspective......

We want all our members to perform the steps outlined in the link I'll give you below, before posting for assistance. There's a sticky at the top of this forum, and a
Having problems with spyware and pop-ups? First Steps
link at the top of each page.

---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Please follow our pre-posting process outlined here:

http://www.techsupportforum.com/f50...-posting-for-malware-removal-help-305963.html

After running through all the steps, you shall have a proper set of logs. Please post them in a new topic, as this one shall be closed. I currently have as many open topics as I can effectively handle; this will have you back in queue with the proper logs so an available helper would be able to assist.

If you have trouble with one of the steps, simply move on to the next one, and make note of it in your reply.

Please note that the Virus/Trojan/Spyware Help forum is extremely busy, and it may take a while to receive a reply.
