Is proxy detectable, and to what extent?

I know there are ways to detect and avoid anonymous proxies by simple scripts, but if I surf a website which doesn't block the proxy I'm surfing on, does this mean the website does not detect my proxy? I am using vtunnel by the way. Is it true that surfing by vtunnel doesn't make you 'look anonymous', but only replaces the IP you are surfing with?

So if a website registers my fake proxy IP, can it know that I was surfing by proxy afterwards? Especially when I fill in forms and such? Are the webmasters able to know that I was surfing by proxy after seeing the IP afterwards?

I want to fill in a form anonymously, but I presume that this might not be tolerated by the website. I am able to fill in the form, but I just want to know if they can detect that I was using a proxy afterwards (by seeing a list with IPs or something).
Hmm... Upon reflection, I don't think we want to assist in this activity. There are very few legitimate reasons to do this.
