Is it safe to install used software from e-bay?

Hello all, I recently purchased a piece of software from e-bay because I've wanted it and it was $15. Anyhow, I got the disk but I started thinking...can you get a virus by installing software that's been in someone else's machine? The disk itself looks like it's a legit disk from the manufacturer and not some bootleg but I was unsure if some clown could put malware on an original software disk. Should I be cautious or can I just let this thing rip? Thanks!

no, it wouldnt have a virus on it...

and what software are we talkin bout here?
Put it in the drive and run your antivirus over it to check it
JP, it's Calendar Creator 10. The box is open and clearly has been used. The e-bay ad stated as such and I have no problem with it until I started wondering if used software could be infected. Either intentionaly or if somehow a virus could migrate onto software disks somehow.

Assif, this might sound stupid but do I need to disable autorun to do that? Because when I put this thing in it's gonna start spinning within a few seconds.
no a virus cant migrate on a CD as the CD cant be rewritten unless its a rewritable ....

Which most software CDs arnt.
You would need to disable autorun to do this. But if it is a manufactures disk as has been said already you cannot add to it. It is wise to run antivirus if it is a copy though.
If its not from the original manufacturer then check its contents with a virus scanner just to be sure.

VBScripts, JS files and executables can be/contain viruses.
