I'm sitting here with the screen from a dead laptop wondering if I can use it apart from the laptop chassis. The motherboard on the laptop is no good and the entirety of the rest of it has been taken apart to it's tiniest pieces. (I like to disassemble things) Anyway I've been looking around and it seems you can't really use a laptop monitor without the rest of the machine.

Would I be able to use it now and if so how would I get it set up?

Reverse engineering various objects, and then using them for purposes for which they were never intended, has always been a hobby of mine.(my parents and ex-wife would probably testify to that)

What you are talking about here will require that you have at least some understanding of electronic and digital circuits. You will need to fathom out the signal and power wires to the screen and then fashion some sort of interface card to accept a signal from another device. Sounds simple enough, eh?

On the other hand, you could throw all the guts out of the laptop and use the clamshell to hide your cookies.
