I'm hoping someone here can solve my problem. For the past few months (more like 8, and my computer is about 15 months old) my HP dv9010us notebook has had serious overheating issues. It'll get hot enough to burn my legs, but never once has it shut down suddenly (or otherwise) because of it, it just simply gets too hot for me to use and I put it back on my desk. I just recently noticed that the main heat is coming from the RAM area. While I do keep it on my lap sometimes, I will notice the issue and prop it up, but it doesn't help. Last night I put it on a couple of big books so the vents could be open, but this morning it was hotter than ever.

Admittedly, I do keep my laptop on all day everyday, probably causing this.

Another problem that goes along with this is that whenever I restart the computer, it will restart over 5-8 times and never boot up before it finally does boot. Sometimes when this happens I have to just force shutdown and press the power button again, and that only takes one time for it to boot. (I hope that made sense)

Finally, I have weird battery issues. I'll run a battery check, and it'll say its a failure, but then I'll unplug the AC, take out the battery, and press the power button for 20 seconds, plug everything back in and run the battery check again and it will say the battery is perfectly fine (which I do not understand why it does that. )

I forgot to mention that the AC adapter itself gets very hot, but I'm assuming thats because I always leave the laptop plugged in.

I'm sorry if this was long, but I really need to find out why this is happening since I'm not under warranty anymore. Thanks!!

Edit: I just ran speed fan in case anyone was curious about my current temperatures:

HD0: 52C
Temp1: 66C
Core: 76C
Core: 86C

(And its a bit hot in my room)

Hi Amalia,
I think you've answered your own questions................overheating will cause all sorts of problems and eventually ruin your notebook.
Here is a link for an example of what you could invest in.....

http://www.aria.co.uk/Products/Laptops/Accesories/Laptop+Cooler+with+3+FANS+?productId=27546

You just sit the notebook on top of this and the fans do their stuff in cooling it down.
Plus, you could try turning the thing off now and again.

One more word though, it has been researched and found that sitting with a very hot notebook on your lap for long periods of time can damage your sexy bits! True.
