You may use your new drive, but it will run as SATA2 (max transfer rate = 3.0Gbps). You will not notice this as even the fastest conventional hard disk can barely saturate the original SATA 1.5 Gbps bandwidth. SSD's are the only drives which can utilize the higher bandwidth of SATA3 (6Gbps)
