Ok so here is my problem, I am trying to reformat my drive (40g western digital 7200) with windows xp home, So I have my system start from cd , I get into the setup and after a few seconds, the screen goes blue, and I get a random stop message, most saying IRQL_Not_Less_Or_Equal and then the computer sits there until I turn it off any ideas as to why?

Try taking out any extra devices you may have, a modem, sound card, nic anything like that. And try it again. It may be having a problem dectecting something.

All of those are on-board, only a video card in expansion slots

Have you tried turning them off in bios?

This error is almost always a driver related issue. If you've installed any new drivers or devices recently, that's the place to start.
