if all your songs are on the macintosh's hard drive you have nothing to fear. reformatting the ipod has nothing to due with the mac at all. and what ipod do you have and version of mac os and itunes? i have my ipod windows formatted ( so that i can use it as a portible hd ) and it works fine on my mac too.
