Iomega 250GB failure question

683 Views 4 Replies 3 Participants Last post by  fdm32
Running Win 7 Pro and have just encountered an issue with my Iomega 250GB external HGG. It has been working until yesterday. Now when I connect it to the usb outlet on my pc and power it up it does not appear as a computer drive - the light comes on and I can hear it spinning and then there is a clicking sound and it shuts down.

The drive is 6 years old - is there any hope for this drive in terms of use and content salvageablity? Or is it now a paperweight?

Any input would be appreciated.

A clicking HDD is a Failed or Failing HDD.
This probably wont' help, but you can remove the HDD from the enclosure and attach it internally to a desktop computer as a secondary drive. If the drive is recognized in the Bios, then you can run Data Recovery software on it, like Spinrite. I have had the best luck with GetDataBack. If the drive still clicks and powers down, then it needs to be replaced.
Always have files you can't live without backed up to more then one place.
