Recently, I have been hammered with various issues. I would assume that I had a virus, other than the fact that I have scanned my computer twice with Norton and have found nothing. I have also scanned with Spybot, but this hasn't helped either. Here are the seemingly unrelated issues that all happened the same day:
Internet Explorer is no longer able to load many web pages (i.e. it times out after a couple minutes trying to load yahoo, google, myspace, weather, amazon, and many others, but does load msn, live, cnet, and most other smaller websites. It also loads some like imdb.com and, although it loads the page, you can watch the status bar and it will never stop loading things including a lot from ads.clicksor.com.)

When I reboot the PC, I get several errors including:
-Error loading various dll files... one of which was qoMfCUME.dll, which I have never heard of.
-Trying to reinstall Microsoft Streets and trips (it's been installed, working and unused for weeks now.)
-Windows Automatic Updates has stopped working.

I have also has random ad pages just pop up without warning or provocation.

What I have done/discovered:

I installed Firefox and have the exact same problems with it as I did with IE.

I can, however, browse and access any site w/o issue through the browser built into Microsoft Money Plus, (unless it opens a page in a new window - which then uses IE.)

I have tried System Restore. This was unable to restore "due to an unspecified error." (BTW, S.R. has only ever worked for me once in the past 5 years with XP or Vista. No idea why that is.)

Norton recently detected security risk Trojan.Vundo, but removing this did not help.

I see BM073f7168 in my startup list (located in system32 called pplajhrw.dll)
I also see MSSERVER in my startup list (located in system32 called qoMfCUME.dll)

Does anyone recognize this behavior? Any help or suggestions would me most welcome before I have to format and reinstall. Sorry for the length of this cry for help!
