My Internet Explorer 6 doesn't always remove history files when requested. I am also receiving more failure messages during use and being requested to send to Microsoft. I believe some components of Explorer have been damaged. I have tried to repair Explorer as suggested in Explorer help but this has not helped. I would like to know how to uninstall my Explorer and download a new copy? I also don't understand how to access the download site once I have removed Explorer from my computer. I also would like to burn my own CD copy once downloaded for easier future installations and not sure how to do this. Any help is greatly appreciated.

First off, Welcome to the forums, gooseguy! Now for the bad news - IE6 cannot be removed without seriously messing up Windows (although some people say it's possible). You may try reinstalling IE6 over itself to see if that will work.

Hey Canadian companion! A few things first.
A really good program for getting rid of IE History and all the other stuff is called SuperCleaner, its a small program but it works good, but its not free. Go HERE!!
For saving a copy of IE 6 to install later, I seen how to do it somewhere but I forget, if I find it I'll post it. It actually stores the files in a temp location somewhere, If you found it you just have to move them, and zip it up.
Dont remove Explorer before you download the new one.
You might want to try the Opera web browser, some people once they use it never go back. LOOK!

Just to tell ya, if you didn't know this already, the Windows 98 line is very prone to errors... I used to have Windows 98 and IE6, and the same problem, I re-installed IE6 and it worked fine. So, yes, try re-installing IE6. Oh, and what's your method of getting rid of the IE history?

i doubt your problem lies within internet explorer. in win 98 and above internet explorer has its grubby fingers within every crack of the system. usually when IE has regular problems you have a problem within the system itself. scan for trojans, invest in a good maintenance program like norton, or mcaffe to scan the registry for invalid activeX/com entries. they can cause alot crashes with IE. make sure to run a virus scan because an important file may be corrupted. beofre any of this though download the latest version of IE6, with the service pack.

Internet Explorer 6 History

Hi!

I have one web site address file (a dubious adult site) in my IE6 which will not be erased. Clear History in Internet Options deletes all other history address files except this one.

I installed the latest IE6 from Microsoft's download site, but it makes no difference!
