I am having problems with my Win 98-2 during my serfing attempts. I hope someone here in the group can help. When I click on Internet Explorer and attempt to go to a web page like Google or Ebay I can only download and/or update the pages for a few minutes. After that I can see that the little connection icon stops flashing and data no longer is downloaded. If I click on reload it flashes a couple of times and stops. If I close out the window and open another I can get it to work for a couple of minutes again. I can get email and go to my home page without any problem. I have tried using Netscape and it works for a bit longer but seems to have the same symptoms after a bit. I have tried to check and/or change:

So far I have:
1. Cleaned all of my cookies.
2. Removed all Internet Temp files
3. De-fragged the Hard Drive.
4. Ran Scandisk and checked surface.
5. Removed Firewall
6. Removed and reinstalled Microsoft Explorer
7. Replaced external US Robotics Modem.
8. Ran File System Checker program
9. Installed Netscape and tried to see if it had the same symptom, It did.
10. Installed and ran software to free up ram memory
11. Ran Anti-Virus software
12. Ran Spyware software.
13. Deleted all unnecessary programs
14. Verified all remaining programs and removed from auto startup upon boot.

I cannot get the system to download and/or refresh web pages after a few minutes on the Internet using My ISP server. Am not sure if the problem lies with them, my system, or the rest of the world.

When first connected to their server I can go to a Web page and usually get it to come up within 10 to 20 seconds. I can usually get it to follow a link or go to a new page during the first few minutes. After that it starts downloading a page and seems to freeze with the download. The computer icon that shows data transferred and its speed indicates data being sent and received for the first period. Then it shows no data received but a few streams of short burst of data being sent every so often. Almost like my computer keeps sending a request for more data to be received.

Many times I can get pages downloaded by disconnecting from the server and re-dialing into them again. Other times I have to go close Microsoft Explorer and reopen it again.

During these time of not getting pages downloaded I can still refresh my home page and send/receive emails from Outlook express. It seems to only affect pages beyond the server and at their connection to the Web.

I have also tried to Install and use Netscape. I find that it still has the problem, although it does not seem to be so often. Can you provide any insight into my problem and its solution. Right now the Internet and their server is about useless. Don

Thanks for the email and your suggestions. However I do not lose my internet connection to my server. I just lose my ability to transfer data back and fourth. I can still use my Outlook express and even use my local home page. It is just when I try to go to a search engine that the system hangs.

I have Ad-Aware installed and have run it many times. No Spyware detected. Also have tried Pest Patrol, same results. No Hotbar installed nor PopUp Blocker software. Using standard dialup modem, now trying Dialup DSL with same results.

Have already reinstalled the dialup adapter a couple of times. Went through the network card again and all is as you suggest.
Checked the network card TCP/IP and all is same also.

Have also ran antivirus programs with latest updates and found nothing bad.

The strange thing is that it works for a few minutes and then stops. If I open another window for explorer it will work for that window for a few more minutes. But if I go back to the other window( still open and hung ) it is still not working. I go back to the new window and it still may be working for a few minutes more before hanging.

It does not seem to be related to my computer as much as the ISP's system.

In the past I have found that Ebay's pages might be busy for a few minutes but if I wait a bit it will update. Might there be some relation there? Don

Nice suggestion but it isn't the dialup that is dropping. I stay connected, it just stops allowing data transfer in Internet Explorer. The email portion continues to work fine. Don
