Go to Start/Run and type devmgmt.msc and press Enter. In the Device Manager do you see any devices with yellow marks? If so, these are devices that need to have drivers installed. If you have a driver disc for your Netgear Adapter, install it (remove the adapter before running the driver, and plug it in when it says to) You can go to the Dell/Support/Download Drivers web site, type in your Make and Model # and it will take you to the download page for your particular machine. Download all the other drivers for your computer marked with yellow in the Device Manager.
Have you run the XP 'wireless network setup wizard' in Control panel?
it may also be useful to us if you right click on the wireless connection in the bottom right then click Status then go to support and post what the IP address and default gateway address are.
