I'm having an odd problem with my internet connection. I'm using Roadrunner and an Ambit modem provided by them, along with a Linksys wireless router. Everything worked fine for months. For the past two weeks however, I will completely lose my connection but only during the hours of noon until around 6:00 pm. The connection is fine during the evening, night and early morning hours and all weekend. The problem continues day after day during the same time period. My cable TV is still working properly the entire time.

I've tried rebooting the computer, unplugging the modem, checking to make sure the cable was working properly (it worked fine when I plugged it into a TV), using Windows network diagnostics help, and not using the router and plugging the modem directly into the computer, all to no avail. The problem occurs whether the computer is on or off and whether the computer is in use or not. I'll look at the modem and the "send", "receive", and "ready" lights will be off.

I've spoken with Roadrunner tech support and all they've told me was that there was no outage in my area, but that my modem was listed as offline.

Any ideas what could be causing this?

Classic sign of problems with the cable infrastructure.

I had the exact same kind of issue with Comcast, and it turned out to be one of their pole mounted gateways was heating up in the sun and crapping out. My Internet would start getting intermintent around 11 AM or so, and would totally crap out within about an hour. It wouldn't come back until the sun went down.

It took those clowns almost three weeks of sending someone out to my house to figure out it wasn't in my house! I finally simply lost it on the phone to the support center and they actually went and found the failing box and replaced it.

Other than some really oddball failure of the modem, this is an ISP issue. Since they also supplied the modem, I'd INSIST they come and fix it.
