I recently did a year's worth of Win 10 updates from MS, now when I do a startup or restart there are four unwanted interlopers on the screen (see picture) before the login screen. How do I get rid of them?

Go into settings snd remove news weather etc .. I have removed or disabled a lot of stuff including what you show here, so I have no way to point the way ..

Start off by looking at the installed programs list and remove or Disable anything you don't need or want. I removed or Disabled Hello, Cortana, Edge, X-Box ... and anything that is just eye candy .. I forget the full list ..

It sounds like (and looks like) the OP is referring to the screen widgets.....

According to Google's AI these are the instructions:

To remove widgets from the lock screen on Windows 10, you can disable the "detailed status" app in the Personalization settings. Choosing the "None" option will turn off all the weather, news, and other information cards that appear.

Step-by-step instructions
  1. Open the Settings app. You can do this by clicking the Start button and then clicking the gear icon, or by pressing the Windows key + I on your keyboard.
  2. Navigate to Personalization, and then click on Lock screen.
  3. Scroll down to find the "Lock screen status" section.
  4. Under the heading "Choose one app to show detailed status on the lock screen," click the icon to open the drop-down menu.
  5. Select "None" from the list of options.
