Hi there

I'm looking to setup Inter-VLan routing on a 4800G switch.

I'm looking for all workstations (VLAN1) to be able to talk to the windows network (VLAN2) and to our Novell network (VLAN3)

but I don't want Windows (VLAN2) and Novell (VLAN3) talking to each other.

Can somebody provide me with a noobs step by step guide of how to do this?

Is this possible accross a single switch? I have 7 switches available to use if needed.

Any help is much appreciated

Ignoring the question of why you would have workstations in one vlan and NOS each in their own vlan [vlans traditionally are per dept], you would want to google 4800G switch manual and review the switch documentation.

how many workstations/servers are we talking here?

Hi Wand3r3r

Thanks for your reply

We have 26 Windows and 14 Novell servers that we are looking to seperate using VLANS.

Currently they are seperated because windows is using IP and novell are communicating using IPX.

I have the switch documentation and have followed it through. I've successfully created 3 VLANS.

VLAN1 (PC's)
IP: 10.1.4.1
Mask: 255.255.0.0

VLAN2 (Windows Servers)
IP: 20.1.4.1
Mask: 255.255.0.0

VLAN3 (Novell Servers)
IP: 30.1.4.1
Mask: 255.255.0.0

By setting each devices' gateway to the IP of it's VLAN all 3 VLANS can communicate together. Now I need to prevent VLAN 2 and 3 talking to each other

Any ideas?

Thanks

Robbie

the switches are layer 3 which makes it act as a router allowing the 3 vlans to talk to each other.

By adding an IP address to each VLAN Interface, routes allowing all 3 vlans to talk to each other are automatically added so I have no way of removing the link between 2 and 3.

I was thinking about using ACL/QOS to prevent the 2 vlans from communicating, does this sound like a good idea?
