This happens on a windows xp, srvice pack 3. Not using any programs that is using a lot of memory, no videos or games. Started last week.

also have received error saying "not enough storage is available to proceed with this command" when I try to open up any other programs.

I've ran numerous scans, and the next step is for me to do some work in the registry, but wanted to get some advice first.

I've read to increase the IRPStackSize, haven't done that yet. Any suggestions?

It's a dell optiplex 320, 320 GHZ, 1 gig ram, 96 Gigs of free space, 138G total. Started doin this last week.
I've ran numerous spyware programs, two antivirus, removed all stuff from temp folders. Also added in the reg editor the Irpstack size didn't exist, so I created that just now and rebooted the computer.

Yes. Increase the IRPStackSize because that is what's causing the problem. Make any value changes in decimal. I believe the recommended adjustments are in increments of 3. I'm pretty sure Microsoft has a tech note regarding this problem if you want to give it a look.

Ok, I've been tweaking this thing every day, but I've noticed that it keeps jumping from decimal to the other, as though it wants to go that route. What should I put in there? It wants letters, not numbers???

Go to HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\System\CurrentControlSet\Services\LanmanServer\Parameters then right click on IRPStackSize. Click Decimal and see if the value is what you changed it to. If it is, then you're editing it correctly.

I've been through this before and it's always resolved the problem. You could try deleting the IRPStackSize key and replacing it again. The key is case sensitive and must be typed exactly as shown. Changes don't take effect until you reboot. I just checked my registry and the value I have is 18 (decimal)

Make sure you're logged in as an administrator and try running regedt32.exe instead of regedit. Then change the value again. When you view the value for the key, the default display will be hexadecimal. If you click the decimal button, you should see whatever # you put in.

Ok, tried that, and still having issues. Still getting the error messages, and now it seems to be happening more often. What else can I check?
