Its a brand new hard drive, its a OEM i believe.

Them big 250gb hard drives.

Well im trying to insall windows xp on this fresh drive, and when I turn on the Cpu it says "push any key to boot from cd"...so I push a key .. cause thats how you get it to start installing windows right.

It goes to the normal blue screen, the setup screen...

only it never starts loading it just hangs on the blue screen.

Doing nothing, just sitting there blank for ever.

Note: This hard drive has never had a OS installed on it, but the drivers are installed.

HEEEEEEEEEEEELP! :4-dontkno

Did any software come with the drive? You may be able to go to vendors
website to get tools. You need to partition/format drive prior to xp install.
Xp should do that for you, but looks like xp doesnt like something. Are the
jumpers on the drive set correctly. master/slave.

It's a SATA.. right?

You should have recieved a floppy disk with the mainboard with some drivers on it for the SATA controller. If not, you will hopefully have a CD that will allow you to create the disk.

The XP setup cannot use SATA drives natively, so you need to press F6 (i think) during the first setup screen of the install (it will tell you at the bottom of the screen), after a few seconds (and loading other drivers) it will ask you to load the controller 'driver', you then select the driver on the floppy disk, and your away.

You might need to go on the 'mainboard' manufacturers website if you did not get the disk.

Didn't need to. It would explain the problem. :sayyes:

Mind you, it could also be a PATA drive on a RAID controller. That would also require a driver disk.

You said this twice but I don't know what it means...how can you install drivers when the cd won't setup XP??? Makes no sense.

How/where did you install the drivers?

Does your PC also have an IDE drive with an OS installed?

Is there any text (at all) on the 'blue screen' at any time or before is stalls?

Have you checked the boot order in the BIOS? Make sure 'cd-rom' comes before HDD-0 (or similar).

Intel 865gpf
Maxtor 250gb Sata Driver.
P4 .... 3.0

It was all good until the SATA was put in.
You do know the difference between the 'drive', and a 'driver' don't you?

Just checking, in case there is any confusion.

Seems like boot sector is not set up or affected with virus or windows vista has been installed or Linux or what ever...

so, get utilities from your hard drive manufacturer or other 3rd party, kill MBR (Master Boot Record)

oh yea , get the controller drivers from you mobo manufacturer for SATA for RAID or ACPI

try install again...
hit F6 right away and load up the drivers for controller and it should be ok…
