Hello!

I have a question concerning the installation of win xp pro on a pc currently running win me. I am not too familiar with xp and want to make sure that this install doesn't blow up on me.

My question is do I need to format the existing hard drive before installing xp? If so, how?

Thanks for your help!

Hey

Technically you don't have to but I think its better that you start fresh rather than trying to upgrade to Windows XP (NT based) over a 9x based Windows - Windows ME at that
Its a big job.

So unless your Win ME don't give you any trouble, I suggest you start fresh

To format the PC is simple, just throw in the Windows XP CD and restart the computer :D

If your XP cd is an upgrade version, it will look for a previous version of windows (on the harddrive or ask you to insert the win me cd) before it proceeds to install
If your XP cd is a full version it will simply install
