Installing Ubuntu on formatted hard drive NEED HELP!

I'm new to the site, thank you for any feedback.

I have a acer one netbook that I'm trying to intall Ubuntu on. I had to remove the hard drive and format it with a "sata to usb adaptor" with my other computer, due to a virus.

When I put the formatted hardrive back into the netbook and turn it on it just says "Missing Bootmgr, hit ctrl alt del to restart"

So I downloaded Ubuntu and the universal usb installer and attempted to extract the iso to an external harddrive I have, so I can plug it into my netbook and install Ubuntu from the hard drive. I problem is once I plug the hard drive into the netbook theres no way to tell it to boot the usb drive.

Is there anyway to put ms-dos or something on the netbook hard drive so I can tell it to boot? Or another solution?

No way to boot from USB??? What about a bios settings??It should be there If there is no such option, try to burn the image to DVD and install from there.
When you turn on he laptop before the missing mbr txt there will be a chance to press esc, f2 etc. You will only have a second or so, so it might take a few restarts. Then just tell to boot from usb.
