Installing from CD-ROM = CRASH!

Whenever I try to install about 90% of programs from CD it crashes my computer. The crash happens when auto-run runs, so I had to turn that option off. It also happens if I try to just run the Setup.exe file on the cd. This started happening after I formatted my system partition to Install WinXP with SP1.

When the computer comes back online and I send the report to Microsoft, it says the problem is a driver (but is unsure which one). So I reverted to earlier drivers for the hardware that on other forums were reported to be problematic. These would be my video card, network card, and (of course) cdrom driver (just replaced the cdrom.sys).

All the effort I have put into this problem has gotten me nowhere. I have been installing everything from CD in Safe Mode as a result. If anybody here has any ideas on how to possibly fix this problem, I would be extremely thankful.

try www.windowsupdate.com for driver updates... Make sure that you only use WHQL certified drivers (windowsupdate only doles out WHQL drivers). If windows tells you that a driver might cause instablilty in my experience it will.
