i recently bought call of duty 4, but when i tried to run it it basically said that my video card needed to be updated. I want to purchase an ati radeon 9800 pro off ebay for my computer, as that is the requirement for the game. I was just wondering if this is a job that is capable to do by myself, because i would have no idea how to install it into my computer.

Can you please give me your system specs, including the wattage of your PSU? Also, do you have a open AGP slot?

EDIT: Also, I would be wary of this buy as it is only $16 where the actual card is worth of about $100. Nobody sells the card as about 75% lower then the actual price. Be careful, just as a Reminder :grin:

O well responding to your edit, im not sure if i need a new video card but the root of my problem comes from when i run call of duty 4. I run it but then the screen goes black for about half a second and a box pops up saying

The computer runs fine on every other program on my computer. This is the first encounter i've had with a video card problem

Did the program used to work, how does it work on other games? Please follow this speech, I think we will start checking other things besides for jumping to the conclusion, we need a new card:

It has come to my attention that you might have a heat or voltage issue with your computer. We can not assume that it is one of these so we will go ahead and check. I would like you to download and install the program Speedfan. When you are done installing Speedfan open and look for 3 columns. One should have temperatures, the other should have voltages, and the last one should contain your fan speeds. When you have found this information please post to me in a column such as this: (Example)

Temperatures

Temp1: 30 C
Temp2: 60 C
HD0: 44 C

Voltages (only for desktops)

5.5V: 5.5
3.33V: 3.24

Fan Speeds

Speed1: 2480 RPM

(Remember this is just an example, please post your exact information)

If you are running on a Dell Laptop please follow these steps then post your temperatures, voltages, and fan speeds:

• Open Speedfan
• Click Configure on the Main Screen
• Go to the Options Tab
• Check the: "Enable DELL Support (use this function only on DELL notebooks)" check box
• Click Ok then Close Speedfan
• Start Speedfan once again

Then post your temperatures, voltages, and fan speeds.

thats the only one i could find the fans say 0

Try cleaning your system with a compressed air can and open up the PC while it is on. Make sure that your fan is spinning. Use a anti-static cloth and compressed air can to remove dust while the PC is off.

As apart of our tasks in starting or working in a case I will need your System Specs or stats. We can figure these out by downloading the program PC Wizard 2008. Install this program and it should open to the System Summary page after loading up. When at the summary page I would like you to click on the Save button at the top toolbar. Save it as a text file called "PCWizard08 SystemInfo" and post its contents here in your next post.
