Is it really necessary to take out the old video card before installing a new one. Is there a way to just disable it? I ask this because my monitor port is connected directly to the motherboard, and I dont have my motherboard manual to figure out which one is the video card. Can't I just install it and forget about the old one?

If the video card is part of the actual MOBO then you may be able to disable it in the system bios. If you cant do it there download the manual for your MOBO and find the correct pin to jump to disable to on board video

Or....

Like IBMs....

Put the new card in the PCI slot and the PCI slot might (I stress might I ve seen it go both ways) over ride the on board video...

I works with IBMs...but thats why you pay the extra $$ for them:angel:
