install printer without connecting it using Remote Desktop

First off I'm new here, don't know my way around yet so if this is posted in the wrong area, I'm sorry.

I want to install an HP printer (officejet 6210) on my computer at my office which is 800 miles away. I connect to my office computer using Remote Desktop. Both machines are running XP pro.

I have the printer connected and installed on my home computer. But when I start Remote Desktop I can't see the printer (I do have RD set to "bring printers").

In searching for an answer, I get the feeling RD will not see the printer because it's connected using a USB cable and for some reason it just doesn't see it.

In the past I have physically taken my printer to my office, installed it and then brought it back home and then RD will see it. So I need to get this new printer installed somehow without actually connecting it to my office computer. I have the software copied to my office and when I try to install it (connected using RD) it aborts when I don't have the printer to connect. Is there anyway to "trick" it to think the printer is connected or some way to force the driver install without connecting the printer.

If all else fails, I'll have to wait until I at my office again in a few months, then take the printer and physically connect it and install the software.

Thanks for any help or suggestions.

Frank
