Incorrect Processor being read

i have a Pentium III and it says in System Properties that im using a x86 Family 6 Model 8 Stepping 3... sounds like an old 486 processor and my computer runs slow like a 486 even tho i have 192 ram and 733 mhz P3.. anyone know what the prob is?

Go into the bios and see what it detects the processor as. If it is set to auto detect you should see what speed the bios recognizes the processor as on one of the first screens during bootup.
It would help if you could post the type of system you have or at least the motherboard mfg. and model number.

The X is generic. It is the same as "Windows 9X" which coud mean Windows 95 or Windows 98. In your case the X represents a 5. Your processor is a 586 Pentium.

As far as running slow, there are numerous possibilities.

Have you defragmented recently?
Is Windows controlling your swap file size?
Do you have lots of Hard Drive space available?

The list goes on. Can you provide more info?
