- I am new to this website, and a bit stupid when it comes to IT -

Yesterday, I was installing Windows Essentials + Movie Maker (I have Windows 7). Then afterwards, i've got an error saying: "Ordinal 323 was not found in DLL.library iertutil.dll."

I uninstalled Windows Essentials and Movie Maker, and installed them again. I also restarted my computer. Today, the error came up again. But not only when i opened Movie Maker, but also when i tried to open Wondershare Video Editor, Wavepad Video Editor, and when i tried to download things from the Internet.

What is happening to my computer, and what can I do?

Steps to perform SFC scan:

1. Click the Start button
2. From the Start Menu, Click All programs followed by Accessories
3. In the Accessories menu, Right Click on the Command Prompt option
4. From the drop down menu that appears, Click on the 'Run as administrator' option
5. If you have the User Account Control (UAC) enabled you will be asked for authorization prior to the command prompt opening. You may simply need to press the Continue button if you are the administrator or insert the administrator password etc.
6. In the Command Prompt window, type: sfc /scannow and then press Enter
7. A message will appear stating that 'the system scan will begin'
8. Be patient because the scan may take some time
9. If any files require replacing SFC will replace them. You may be asked to insert your Vista DVD for this process to continue
10. If everything is okay you should, after the scan, see the following message "Windows resource protection did not find any integrity violations"
11. After the scan has completed, Close the command prompt window restart the computer and check.

That should fix it but please let us know

When i write "sfc" / "scannow" in cmd, the scan won't run. I don't have the Vista DVD - Can I continue anyways?
What should i exactly write, for the scan to run?

Did you do the right click "run as administrator"

When you say it wont run, what exactly does it say?
I couldn't find "Accessories" in the Programs menu. I did search on Google how to find the folder, but I just couldn't find it. So I just wrote "cmd.exe" in Windows Search. I wrote "sfc /scannow". Nothing happens.
My computer runs in Danish. But translated, it says:

Varaporn, is the name of the administrator.

when you type cmd in the search, before hitting enter, you should see it come up in the search results. Right click on the result and choose "Run as Administrator"

When the black window comes up, then type "sfc /scannow"

I did as you say, and wrote the same thing.
This came up(translated):

I then tried "Scanall" instead of "scannow", it says that the scan would start, but then nothing happen again.

Hi, Vista, Seven and Eight all have a folder known as winsxs, this folder contains all the information required for system file verification (sfc) to run, you DO not require a OS dvd.

SFC is required to be run in an elevated cmd so easiest way is to go to start, search and type:- cmd, right click on the returned cmd.exe and select "run as administrator" almost all cmds for Vista Seven and Eight have to be run this way.

At the prompt you can copy paste this:-

sfc/scannow (press enter), system file verification will run, can take awhile.

Also since Vista's day's the use of Dos has greatly diminished, so MS have created an internal cmd (command.com) may of the usual cmds are included the syntax required for previous dos cmds has been removed, so for eg:-

sfc /scannow or sfc/scannow will work.

Now for Vista you need the OSdvd to boot to the RE (repair your computer), not so for Seven and Eight, advanced mode (safe) contains the option to "repair your computer". It is best to run both chkdsk and SFC from within this mode. sfc offline will often fix what online will not.

This was written when Vista first came out:-

PHP:
Running chkdsk/Sfc within the RE (recovery environment)
First determine what Drive the OS has been assigned by the RE

At command prompt (x: sources) type:-
bcdedit | find “osdevice” (Must inc”) (press enter).

Now use the returned as the drive letter for OS assume C: (if not change the c: in these cmds to what the bcdedit cmd returns))

At the x sources type:- chkdsk /f C: (press enter), 5 stages of chkdsk will run.
can take awhile.

To run sfc/scannow
at the x: sources type:-
sfc/scannow /offbootdir=c:\ /offwindir=c:\windows (press enter)
sfc will run can take awhile
