[SEMC]

I'm trying to fix my mother's T30 laptop. I thought the problem was the LCD ribbon cable as it was worn through the protective coating at the hinge point. I replaced it with a new cable, not refurbished and I still have the same problem. I get random red blocks all over the screen. After about a minute they all fade out to the bottom left corner and completely vanish, then the screen is black. I have hooked it up to an external monitor and I get a good image.

What is the problem? LCD screen? Inverter?

AFAIK any tinge of color abnormal to the LCD is an evidence of a dying LCD. Yes, your cable may have been defective too but could be a different problem in itself.
