I think my Vaio is dead

My Vaio's life has come to an end. I have had my FX340 for over 3 years and it worked great. Until, , , ,the wife dropped it today. I mean I could still see it fall. It was less than one foot on plush carpet, but it's gone. The sreen totaly froze instantly so I turned it off. When I turned it back on, the hard drive light would not come on and the screen is pitch black. I tried to use the System Restore disc and it opens the CD drive and spins the CD, but that's it. I could hear the HD. I also opened it a bit, just the top part and took out the key board and I noticed the fan no longer kicks on. I dont know anyhting about working on a laptop. I swaped a HD on my PC, but that's it.

What can I do? Is it a goner?
I realy dont want to take it to some retail place.

Thanks in advance. . . . . . .

Try plugging in an external monitor and see if you get a picture, the connection from the video card to the laptop display may have been knocked loose.

Thank you for the reply. That is exactly what I tried, and it worked. My laptop screen came on also, which I thought was weird. So I messed around with it for a while. I took it all appart myself and found nothing physicaly wrong, except the chip offset was loose so I tightened it down and blew everything clean. It worked, the Vaio fired right up. I thought my hard drive was toast at first because every time I would try disc check it would restart. But after I dissmantled it it worked fine. But here is the real weirdness. Both of my wireless card slots are dead. They do not recognize the card at all. Why, I have no idea. So I got a wireless USB adapter and it worked.

Now I just would like to find out what happened to my card slots.
If you disassembled it, you should check that the power and interface connectors that connect the PCMCIA slot to the motherboard are connected.
I did, it all looks solid. Is there anything else I should look for?
Do you have another PCMCIA card to try? Also, does the wireless card light up or show any signs of recieveing power?

No and no. . . .This is the only card I have on hand. And no lights show up at all upon plugin. But can the card itself be realy broken?
It is possible it could have been damaged during the fall, and it just wasn't noticed until you got the laptop working. The alternative to trying another card would be to test your card in another laptop and see if it works.
I guess I will try another card and see what it does. Maybe it is not the LapTop itself.
I went out and got a different wireless card today. Still nothing, the card gets absolutely no power at all.
Alright, the CardBus slots usually work with a vertical card that connects directly to the motherboard. Try reseating it. It should snap in. You may also want to check the pins in the slots themselves as to ensure they are not bent.

I checked everything. As far as I can see there is nothing physicaly wrong, and I can not get to the clips that snap the CardBus to the mother board(they are kind of under other components). It's like the circuit is just fried and gets no power. But I am ok with the wireless USB card.
