hey,

i have a compaq armada m700 that has 128 megs of ram. i just put windows xp and most programs that are compatible with xp need 128. i was wondering if i were to put another 128 stick in the laptop, do you think it would run faster? also, when i try to read a cd, it usually says (Warning: Low on virtual memory). i'm guessing this means that there it not enough physical memory to be able to run smoothly. please post answers. :D

Xp does not work all that well with 128mb of memory. I recommend 256 as a minimum. It will run faster if you purchase faster ram. A quick fix for your problem would be to increase virtual memory. Increasing the size of your page file can do this. Right click my computer>properties>advanced>Performance settings>advanced>change.

If you keep your eyes open, many of the large office and computer chains regularly run rebate deals on computer components. I've build an entire system for around $250 in total cost, which includes 512mb of RAM, a MB, Processor, 160gig disk, CD-RW, and the case.
