Hi,
I need help with cleaning up my PC. It seems very slow, both running applications and accessing the internet. I have went through all your pre-recommended suggestions meaning, running Ad-Aware SE Personal, running about 4 virus scanners (some infections were found and cleaned), removing installed applications, and all the other many suggestions that were listed. I have also executed HiJackThis and ran the log through KRC HijackThis Analyzer.exe. I have attached the log and will await further instructions.
Thank you so much in advance!

<mod's note: It's always best to post any logs directly, rather than as an attachment. Thanks>

Hello, Family_Man. Thank you for being patient while I reviewed your log!

Important: Copy this page into Notepad & save it. You may also want to print out a copy of these instructions in case you lose your internet connection. Make sure to work through the fixes in the exact order they are presented. If there is anything that you don't understand, ask me about it before proceeding with the fixes. It is important to close all browsers (Internet Explorer, My Computer, etc.) or windows when you are running any scans, tools, or HJT.

BroadJump:
I see you have BroadJump on your system. This is the newer name for BroadJump Foundation Client (BJCFD) from BroadJump.com, now Motive. The software collects information on your Internet activity and sends it to your ISP so that your ISP can serve you advertisements related to the type of sites you visit. I suggest that you carry out the fixes indicated below but I would approach your ISP as soon as possible and ask them how to remove it and why they installed it in the first place. Do not attempt to uninstall the program yourself.

Downloads:

CleanUp!
The Temp folders are a popular place for malware to hide out, plus installation programs tend to leave a lot of junk in there. Download and install CleanUp! to clean out your temps, but do not run it yet.

Ewido Security Suitehttp://www.ewido.net/en/download/. Install & update it's database but do not run it yet.

Reboot into Safe Mode. (Tap the F8 key until menu shows up.)

Next, have you installed a program by Neoteris called Cache Cleaner? My research on this program indicates it might be legitimate, but I wanted to check with you first. If you don’t know what it is &/or haven’t installed it yourself, then please include the following entries in GREEN in the following fix. Otherwise leave these entries out.

Uninstall Bad Programs:

Uninstall the following via “Add/Remove”, if they still exist. (Start > Settings > Control Panel > Add/Remove Programs):

Mirar Toolbar – This toolbar is considered adware
Huntbar and/or WinTools – You have an entry in your log indicating these may be present on your computer. Please check for them in Add/Remove. It’s okay if you can’t find them as they may not have been installed.
Weatherbug - This program is adware & has a history of delivering malware. I suggest you uninstall it. If you installed it yourself & are okay with what it does, then you may keep it & ignore the O16 entry in the Removal section. However I would suggest at least considering an alternative such as WeatherWatcherhttp://www.singerscreations.com/Software.asp[/url, or TheWeatherChannel.com's Desktop Weather.
Neoteris/CacheCleaner

HiJackThis Entries:

Run a scan in HijackThis. Place a check mark next to the following entries if they still exist:

R1 - HKLM\Software\Microsoft\Internet Explorer\Main,Search Bar = http://red.clientapps.yahoo.com/cus...rch/search.html
R0 - HKLM\Software\Microsoft\Internet Explorer\Main,Start Page = http://red.clientapps.yahoo.com/cus...://my.yahoo.com

Please make sure to close all open windows & browsers, then click Fix Checked.

You may also safely delete the following entries at your option. They are not malware, but can be annoying. Follow the same procedures as above:

Reboot into Normal Mode.

Run Cleanup!
Configure the program as follows:
  1. Click Options...
  2. Move the arrow down to Custom CleanUp!
  3. Put a check next to the following:
    • Empty Recycle Bins
    • Delete Cookies
    • Delete Prefetch files
    • [X]Scan local drives for temporary files (Please uncheck this option)
    • Cleanup! All Users
  4. Click OK
  5. Press the CleanUp! button to start the program. Reboot/logoff when prompted.
* CleanUp! will delete all the files in your temp folders without making a backup!

Run Ewido:
  • Click "Scanner"
  • Click "Complete System Scan" to begin scanning.
  • Click "OK" when prompted to clean files
  • With the first file it prompts to clean, select the option - "Perform action on all infections", choose "Clean" and click "OK".
  • Once finished, click the Save Report button
  • Save the report to your desktop
Close Ewido

Please post a fresh HJT Log, & the Ewido Report.

Hi and thanks for all your help so far :)

As far as an overall summary, I have done absolutely everything you suggested. Even the items you said were optional as I want a clean computer.

As far as BroadJump, I was told by my ISP provider that this was installed regarding intial modem setup. And once this is completed, I no longer need BroadJump. They actually said there were four potential programs that may have been installed regarding this: Virtual Truck, Virtual Technician, BroadJump Client, and Service Agent. I had two of them installed and I removed both of them: BroadJump Client and Service Agent. The removal process as direct by my ISP provider was simply removing them via the Microsoft Windows Add/Remove Programs dialog.

As far as the Neoteris program called Cache Cleaner, I don't recall if I installed this or not, so I removed it.

When I followed your procedure regarding HijackThis, it gave me an error message when I clicked the Fix button. The error message was as follows:
-----------
Unexpected error occurred!

Error # 52 (Bad file name or number) in sub GetLong Path(?exe).

Please send a report to [email protected], mentioning what you were doing, and what version of Windows you have.

This message has been copied to your clipboard.
-----------

I haven't emailed the error yet. Should I or is this something you might like to do? It appears like the items I checked still got fixed at a glance.

As far as running Ewido, it locked my PC the first two times of running it, the mouse was not responsive and was not moving on the screen and <Ctrl><Alt><Del> did not popup the Task Manager so I had to do a hard boot. The third time, I kept a closer eye on it. I kept moving the mouse around often to keep the screen active, even though my sceen saver was set for 45 minutes. I really have no idea why it locked the first two times. The first time I think it was around 20% when it locked up. The second time it was around 25% and had an infection displayed asking for what to do with it. The third time it made it the entire way and appeared to successfully clean the infections. So the log I am attaching below may not include a couple items it may have cleaned the first two times. But then again, maybe it doesn't actually do any cleaning till the very end. If that is the case, the attached log may be complete.

Anyway, here are the logs. I will wait to hear back from you on what to do next. Thanks!

Hi Family_Man,

Things are looking much better! Are you able to run Ewido all the way through then? If so, please do it once more & post the log to ensure we got a complete scan. Otherwise, please follow the instructions below for an online scan.

Please do an online scan at Panda ActiveScan to make sure we got everything:
  1. Click on the Scan your PC button & a 'pop up' window shall appear. * ensure that your pop up blocker doesn't block it
  2. Click On 'Next'
  3. Enter your e-mail address & click 'Send' ...begins downloading Panda's ActiveX controls.- 8MB
  4. In the next window, & checkmark the following:
    • Disinfect automatically
    • Scan compressed files
    • Scan e-mail files
    • Detect unknown viruses (heuristic)
    • Detect spyware
  5. Begin the scan by selecting All My Computer
    * You needn't remain online while it's doing the scan but you have to re-connect after it has finished to see the report.
  6. If it finds any malware, it will offer you a report. Click on see report
  7. Then click Save report
  8. Post the contents of the report in your next reply
