Last week I purchased a very lightly used HP TouchSmart 610 series PC. The original owner had bought it for his kid to take to college but for some reason the kid didn't want it and now it is mine.

It originally came with Win7 installed. The original owner formatted and installed Win10 but did not have activation codes. Also, during this process, it would appear that he formatted the recovery partition. If I open the file manager, I see an 'E drive' that is named HP_RECOVERY. It has 16 GB of free space and there is nothing on the drive except two system folders. One is Recycle.bin and the other is System Volume Information. Right now, when I start the PC I can't get into the recovery partition. When I hit the F11 key (several times) during boot up, the computer just boots into Windows. I'm guessing that since the recovery partition was formatted there's nothing to get into.

Since I don't want to pay to activate Win10 on this machine I think I would like to put Win7 back on. I have a Win7 disk that I paid for. It was originally intended for an old laptop that was running XP at the time. I never actually installed it because after buying the disk it sat for over a month before I made time to backup all my XP stuff. Then I dropped the laptop and that was all she wrote. I never got around to taking it back and now it's been over five years. I doubt I could get a refund.

Here's my question: Is there a way to put that Win7 disk on the recovery partition of this HP TouchSmart? If it is possible, can somebody point me to a guide on the internet? I would like to have it very similar to the way it came from the factory.

I've done some google searching but haven't found anything that seems to address my current situation. As always, any help would be greatly appreciated.

A small window pops up that says:

Windows(R) Core edition:
Windows is in Notification mode

The original owner did not do the free upgrade. He formatted (his words) and installed Win10.

Why don't you use your unused, retail Windows Seven disc instead of trying to recreate the recovery (partition) image? Boot from the Seven disc (or create a bootable usb flash disk), delete all partitions and clean-install Seven.

As Stancestans said, boot off of the Windows 7 DVD or USB. When you get to the part about where to install Windows, go to Drive Options. Here Delete All Partitions until the drive is all Unallocated Space. Go next and Windows will create the partitions it needs and will format them during the install.

I'm not sure if I should be starting a new thread or not.

I installed Win7 Ultimate. I am TRYING to find the damn wireless driver. I went to the HP site before I formatted and downloaded what I thought was all the drivers for Win7. After installing Win7 I go to the USB storage and try to install the drivers and it seems that I didn't really download the drivers. I downloaded a program that scans your hardware setup and downloads/updates drivers for you. At least that's what I think it does. Point is, I have no wireless drivers and I've been searching for over four hours and can't find anything that works. I'm pretty certain I need a Broadcom driver but I can't find information about the specific chipset. I've googled (and googled and googled...). Either I download a driver that doesn't work or I get caught in an endless (and fruitless) click-fest that yields nothing.

I guess I'm getting too old. It used to be; google your product make/model and the type of hardware you had and in three or four clicks you had a driver installed and you were up and running.

Does anybody know where I can find the wireless drivers for this Touchsmart 610-1050Y?

No need for a new thread. Is your Windows Seven 64-bit or 32-bit? Drivers for your system are here, but they are for 64-bit Windows so make sure your Windows installation is 64-bit too otherwise the drivers listed on that site will not work. The wireless driver is here.

Go to Start/Search and type devmgmt.msc, right click the devmgmt results and Run As Administrator. In the Device Manager, are there any devices with Yellow flags? If so, these devices need drivers.
You find drivers by going to the HP Support/download drivers site, type in your make and model #, choose your OS.
As Stancestans showed you, HP Software and Driver Downloads for HP Printers, Laptops, Desktops and More | HP® Customer Support
Expand Driver-Original, and download the Chipset Driver, install this first, the Original Broadcom Wireless Driver and any other drivers you need from the Device Manager. Save them to a USB Flash drive accessing the site from a different computer and then install them to the troubled computer.

Consider this issue resolved. Thank you all for the help.

Stancestans,

I had already tried the HP link you provided. At first it wasn't working for me. Every time I went there I could see Win10 options but I couldn't get to anything for Win7. I don't know if there was a broken link or what. It worked today though. I got all the drivers installed and the TouchSmart is running well.

Thanks again.
